I think a certain discussion two posts down might indicate otherwise.

Hey buddy, maybe you should look at that thread again. Some new responses have cleared up the issue and she explained herself well.

Oh, I just thought of something.

Pragmatism vs idealism are value judgements. Meaning that the two words are based on perspective. For example, someone might feel that such and such is idealistic, but not pragmatic. Another person might feel that something is simultaneously pragmatic and idealistic.

An even more concrete example.

Say for example you felt that every person had the right to own a certain item. Because you feel that this is a right, it is therefore an ideal. Lets also say that you felt that it was also not only possible for the person to own such and such item, but also easy enough to obtain. You would then feel that it is then pragmatic for the people two own the items.

Do you understand? The reason why I prefer right/vs left, authoritarian vs. libertarian, capitalist vs. socialist, etc. is because there are always absolutes independent of opinion, and therefore, scientific to measure, but 'pragmatic/idealistic' is not.

Oh geez. I re-read my last comment, and notice I come across as a bit harsh. Please disregard that.
