Home Again, Home Again, Joggity Jog

Back from my Thanksgiving trip. I had a great time, and the weather was wonderful. Spent lots of time playing outside with Dante and as little time as possible with my crazy family. I am so tired of having drama foisted upon me. I have enough of a life going on without having room to cope with silly things. Do you know that my mother actually just now figured out that I'm both taking classes and teaching alongside of my work at the Literacy Center (of which she knows very little--she'd have to care)? There was a time when that would've hurt my feelings. But I've since realized that I could win double Nobel prizes in Peace and Literature and simply because I wasn't a member of her stinking cult, none of it would matter.

Time has taught me to figure out what I think is right, to be my only questioner, and then (the hardest part) become my own cheerleader. I used to think, "She'll be sorry when she's older and our relationship has fallen apart." Now, I just feel sorry for her. Having trouble with a mother cuts deep. It's the wound that's never supposed to happen. But I've learned that such wounds can be healed. It's even possible to blunt the arrows.

My own experiences with my mother have also taught me how to be a better one. I spent some of my "good mother" time this holiday break discussing wrestling, watching wrestling and playing wrestling video games, playing laser tag with Dante and wobbling around on skates at the local rink with him. Holy crap, you just lose some of your flexibility as you start to get older. And I can never remember thinking: "If I fall, I'll probably break a bone." :D Needless to say, I am SO-O sore today from maintaining my balance and running around the laser tag place in boots with heels.

I did score more kills, though.

I was going to ask you: would you be interested in being a guest blogger on my blog? I haven't had a guest blogger yet, and I figured some of your longer winded posts might indicate you'd like to rant a little on your own. What say you?

Ooooh boots and Lasertag - I have some friends into corny retro that liked to watch Blake's 7.

*drool factor 8 and rising. Sexual polarity oscillating. Must resist urges. Actually, come to think of it...*

Flexibility's like a lot of things honey - use it or lose it. Sounds like you need to get out there a little more and have some fun.

(referring to Kentucky obviously) ;)

oh, and ?that? was a ?skirmish? Fido - I thought your milk teeth were gummy, but that's about it. :)

...and for the record, deer stay nice and quiet, then kick out.

Yeah, actually I was quite soft. Ask DV about disputes I've had with a certain Austrailian for times I was not soft at all.

Ooooh do tell 8-)

Nice to know you've got a few gears and you're not just a floppy puppy.

Did you use Penn and Teller on a country that probably doesn't even get the show?

Four or five, which is four or five too many I might add.

The only one I saw where they weren't embarrassing themselves was the PETA one, and possibly that's because I don't know anything about PETA to know what they were misrepresenting.

The one on profanity was pathetically light, as was the aliens convention and Appolonius (Christ). You could take these subjects apart, they didn't even scratch the surface.

Their Global Warming denial rates right up there on utter idiocy the Bush Administration would be proud of, not to mention strawmen manufacture and misrepresentation and polemic biased editing. Oh and they're utterly wrong. And idiots believe them. Fantastic!

Their rubbish a few blogs down I skimmed did nothing to revise that opinion either.

So yes I have wasted time watching them wondering what the fuss was about before giving up in disgust. No wonder myspace loves them - they pander to cretins. Only a fool spouts off on things they know nothing about you foolish boy.

And in terms of comedy - no their clowning isn't amusing.

You see, your'e a girl. Girls just don't like certain jokes that guys like. This idea that that they are for children is absolute bullshit. Most of P&T's audience are actually intellectuals, folks who come to Vegas and are tired of the mindless Vegas entertainment. They have quite a few celebrity friends, as well as those in the arts and music commnities. If you don't believe me, take a look at all the awards they got:

Writer's Guild of America

* Comedy/Variety (Including Talk) - Series (2004)

[edit] Awards nominated

I consider them to be quite brave, going against Christianity in a country that is 77% or so Christian. They go against so many commonly held beleifs that are held in modern society. Most people would be afraid to say what they say. They are also brave to be a member of a party that very few people join: The Libertarian Party.

Gone light on Christians? Hardly. Don't you know that they devoted AT LEAST 3, if not more episodes to bashing it?!

Bullshit: End of the World
Episode 4, season 1

Bullshit: Creationism
Episode 8, season 1

Bullshit: "The Bible: Fact or Fiction?"
Episode 6, Season 2

Bullshit: "Family Values"
Episode 2, Season 3

Bullshit: "Holier than Thou"
Episode 5, Season 3

Bullshit: "Signs from Heaven"
Episode 12, Season 3

Bullshit: "The Boy Scouts"
Episode 1, Season 4

How many episodes is enough for you? Just because you didn't see them doesn't mean that theyr'e wrong.

As for the Global Warming Episode, I don't agree with their conclusion that global warming is bullshit, or the science in inconclusive. I think that the science of pro-environmentalists is quite quite thorough and methodical. However, I think that P&T were right to point out in that episode that many of the activists are emotionally hysterical, use Greenpeace to launch ideas that have nothing to do with environmentalism, and are often quite ignorant about the science. I think a lot of them are a bunch of trend following kids who are really looking to party, smoke weed and play hackey-sack, as well as annoy people.

Now, I don't actually have a problem with doing any of those things, but what I do have a problem with is that these so-called activists anger everyone else, driving the average person away from environmentalism. In many ways, I feel that they have done almost as much damage to the cause as the Republicans.

Another problem I have with certain environmentalists is that they are against bio-engineered foods. Science has proven that only 4/6th of the world's population can be fed with conventional farming techniques, but bio-engineered foods can feed everyone. Science has also proven that there are no health risks associated with bio-engineered foods whatsoever. These wackos seem to forget that all modern crops and livestock ARE bio-engineered as well, but over the course of thousands of years. I refuse to allow two billion people to starve to death, especially not because of some organic food extremists.

If we are to promote environmentalism, we need to make it so that it can appeal to anyone. I propose giving tax credits to businesses and individuals who are producing green devices such as solar panels, wind collectors, bicycle powered vehicles, green friendly insulation.

Here is a dirty fact that the left doesn't talk about: The U.S. Government is the countrie's biggest polluter. How can we realistically expect it to legislate environmentalism if it is a hypocrite? Makes as much sense as having a fox gaurd the henhouse.

Another nasty thing that our government does is clean up after the mess left behind by large corporations. AT THE TAXPAYER'S EXPENSE! It makes no sense whatsoever. The large corporations should be forced to clean up their messes themselves, and pay heavy fines. Why should a polluter worry about polluting if the government cleans it up? That company will just keep polluting, because it no dis-incentive to do so.

mad dog--calm down. Not everyone has to be amused by what you're amused by. And don't make the shoddy claim that because bambi is a "girl" or you at least think she's a girl, that she just wouldn't get it. That's silly.

The awards you cited are largely for design, comedy writing and "best reality show", whatever that means. Does it mean they're more realistic or something? It doesn't say "Critical Research Award" or anything.

That would be like me using The Daily Show or The Colbert Report as "proof". I think you have to go with a higher quality of proof than just someone with a sharp wit.

My 2 cents worth, anyway. Which, since it's my blog, I could probably give a dollar's worth of if I wanted to. :)

I'm not saying that she has to be entertained by the same things I do, but when someone tells me that I'm an idiot or a fool for something I watch on TV, that's where I draw the line.

You draw lines. 8-o

I thought you pissed on everything you could see, then barked at whatever wandered by?

I didn't say you were a fool for watching it. I said I chose not to watch it, and that anyone who chose to cite it as a definitive, accurate or authoritative souce was a fool.
